Today I am aware of several influential LC-MS pastors, district presidents, and theologians who attended and/or graduated from Springfield.
Earlier this afternoon, I drove out to the former seminary campus on Carpenter Street. The area is noted today by some as being in a "sketchy" part of town. However, on a more positive note, I hear that the level of crime in the area is far less than it was back in the 70's when the seminary ceased operation in Springfield and moved out east to Fort Wayne, IN.
Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield was in operation from 1875 to 1976. The seminary relocated to Fort Wayne. But the seminary buildings remain. Today the buildings are being used by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
